Misk Art Institute introduces The Art Library series’ fifth slipcase with Manal AlDowayan (Manal AlDowayan: Participatory) and Hassan Sharif (Hassan Sharif: Woven). For the first time, the Institute will host book previews to promote the series regionally and internationally.
In collaboration with Rizzoli Libri, the Institute publishes four books per annum both in Arabic and English. The first slipcase has selected artworks displayed in an exhibition during the spring at Prince Faisal bin Fahd Arts Hall in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This year, The Art Library Exhibitions will host Manal AlDowayan (Saudi Arabia) and the late Hassan Sharif’s (United Arab Emirates) artworks, considered their first solo exhibitions in the Kingdom. A program for the opening will be confirmed at a later time.
The exhibitions will be followed by the first regional book preview on March 3 at Art Dubai, paying homage to Sharif’s origins in the United Arab Emirates and where AlDowayan began her career and is home to her studio. The preview will include an introduction to the Institute and series by MAI’s Acting Strategy and Development Director, Nawaf Alharbi and Chief Curator, Basma Alshathry. The program includes two panel discussions and a book signing with key speakers, Dr. Omar Kholeif (Director of Collections and Senior Curator at Sharjah Art Foundation and Contributing Writer for Hassan Sharif’s book), Cecilia Ruggeri (Curator at Misk Art Institute), Manal AlDowayan (artist), and Maya El Khalil (Independent Curator and Contributing Writer for Manal AlDowayan’s book).
The Art Library will also see its first-ever international book preview in collaboration with Rizzoli Libri hosted in Milano MI, Italy at their flagship store, Rizzoli Galleria. The book launch will reflect the series’ values and importance through an international lens with its programing and speakers to be announced later in the spring. The fifth slipcase officially goes on sale internationally on June 20, 2023, while local sales begin on March 1, 2023.
