In spring 2023 the Haute-Vienne contemporary art museum will be unveiling an extensive group exhibition bringing together more than 25 international artists, entitled Make Your Dream Last Longer than the Night.
A reference to the concept album from the Greek composer Vangelis that was released in 1972, the title alludes to the social struggles in the late 1960s. Here it takes on a wider, more universal meaning, inviting us to dream collectively about our future, just like the artist Raoul Hausmann, the guiding light of the museum, who worked tirelessly to redefine the role of art in society after the First World War.
Make Your Dream Last Longer than the Night is like a large collage, bringing together artists of different generations in order to address some major questions of our time, such as the representation of the body in relation to feminism, the quest for identity, or the definition and vision that we have of our world as a whole.
Like a poetic landscape, the exhibition unfolds in three parts, addressing in turn, dream and metamorphosis, the representation of language, and the definition of individuality through both personal experience and collective history.
The exhibition has been made possible thanks to the support of the artists and the following galleries: Marcelle Alix (Paris), Crevecoeur (Paris), Michel Rein (Paris / Brussels) and Xeno X (Antwerp) and also the Frac Artothèque de NouvelleAquitaine (Limoges).
The exhibition is curated by Sébastien Faucon, director of Rochechouart Castle. Located at 40 km from Limoges, the museum is perched dramatically on a rocky outcrop. Most of the castle dates from the 15th century with an inner courtyard and elegant Renaissance gallery with frescoes from the 16th century. In 1985, Haute-Vienne Council established the Museum of contemporary art within its walls. The museum has an exceptional collection of artworks by artists such as Gerhard Richter, Luciano Fabro, Ugo Rondinone, Steve McQueen, Felix Gonzalez-Torres, Danh Vo, Michael E. Smith. It includes also the Raoul Hausmann funds, dedicated to the famous dadaist who spent the last 20 years of his life in Limoges.
Rochechouart Castle is run by Haute-Vienne Council and is an officially recognized French Museum receiving funding from the French Ministry of Culture and Communication.
