May 20–23, 2023
With the first year of the events and collaborations of the LINA Architecture Programme coming to a close, we are inviting you to join us in Ljubljana, to discuss the future of architecture prizes, and in Venice, to officially launch our open call for a future generation of LINA fellows.
What is LINA?
The European platform LINA is an alliance of 32 institutions working at the intersection of architecture and other fields related to spatial culture. Its goal is to steer design and building processes towards regenerative practices and principles of de-growth.
LINA links selected emerging thinkers and practitioners with its member organisations, and invites them to co-create the LINA Architecture Programme: a series of events taking place in 23 countries in Europe and the Mediterranean.
Ljubljana: Are we winning?
May 23, 2023, City Museum of Ljubljana
Roundtable on the future of architecture prizes
Together with the Plečnik Fund, coinciding with the conferral of the eponymous prizes, Slovenia’s highest architectural recognitions, we are opening up the debate on the relevance and future trajectory of award giving in architecture. Joining in on the debate are Allan Mensah (LINA fellow), Ivan Blasi (Mies van der Rohe Foundation), Boštjan Vuga (President of the Plečnik Fund), Mia Roth Čerina (University of Zagreb), Matevž Čelik (Head of LINA Platform), Mateja Kurir (Manager of LINA platform), with guests and winners of the 2023 Plečnik Awards. Together with moderators Nuša Zupanc and Hana Cirman, we will consider how architecture prizes might still help create better architecture.
A contribution to the Architecture Programme by the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Ljubljana, the event is part of the Are we winning? programme, featuring LINA fellows Allan Mensah and Francesca Beltrame. Their research of new criteria in architectural award-giving, including sustainability and diversity, will result in an exhibition taking place in Ljubljana from June 27 to August 1.
Venice: BioGrounds and LINA open call launch
May 20, 2023, Isola della Certosa
The LINA community will celebrate its first year at Isola della Certosa in Venice, joining in the event by MAXXI, National Museum of 21st Century Arts, titled BioGrounds: For a new environmental awareness. LINA fellows Francesca Beltrame, New South, ZWKR and Lemonot will be joined by Josephine Michau (CAFx), Vera Sacchetti (Driving the Human / Forecast), Emanuele Coccia and Yuri Tuma: together, they’ll guide visitors on conversational walks winding across the Venetian island.
The event will launch the open call for the next generation of LINA fellows: emerging spatial practitioners, thinkers and creatives, which will be published on May 20 on the LINA website. Applicants regardless of their age, teams included, are invited to apply with their radical ideas, practical solutions, theoretical insights or thought-provoking practices addressing the environmental crisis.
