The Department of Art and Art History in the UC Davis College of Letters and Science presents the winter quarter public lectures in Art Studio.

Cecilia Alemani: The California Studio

Cecilia Alemani is the artistic director of the 2022 Venice Biennial. Since 2011, she has been the Donald R. Mullen Jr. Director & Chief Curator of High Line Art, the public art program presented by the High Line in New York City. Over the past ten years, Alemani has developed an expertise in commissioning and producing ambitious artworks for public and unusual spaces. Alemani is the winter quarter spotlight artist-in-residence in The California Studio: Manetti Shrem Artist Residencies. Cosponsored by the Manetti Shrem Museum.

Rina Banerjee: Art Studio Visiting Artist Lecture Series

Rina Banerjee is a visual artist whose work draws on her transnational and personal history as an immigrant. Her paintings and sculptures use a wide range of materials and historical references to explore ethnicity, race, migration and American Diasporic histories. In 2018, Banerjee’s first North America solo retrospective Rina Banerjee: Make Me a Summary of the World opened at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. Supported by the UC Davis College of Letters and Science. Cosponsored by the Manetti Shrem Museum.

Art Studio at UC Davis challenges students to cultivate curiosity and sustain the courage to embrace the unknown through art.
