About studying at KABK
Our English taught master’s programmes address contemporary issues and are led by a diverse and socially engaged faculty with international practices. Teaching at the KABK takes the form of small-scale lectures, with a combination of practical and theoretical artistic research. The Royal Academy of Art (KABK) in The Hague offers seven master’s programmes all of which last two-years, except for Type and Media (one-year programme). After completing a master’s degree, you can consider pursuing a PhDArts trajectory. PhDArts is an international doctorate programme offered in close collaboration with the Academy of Creative and Performing Arts (ACPA) of Leiden University.
Our master’s programmes:
Master Interior Architecture (INSIDE): This master programme takes an interdisciplinary approach to the field of interior architecture. You will learn to think from the circular economy perspective by conducting research and mastering design processes.
Master Artistic Research: The Master Artistic Research is open to artists who understand their art practice as an investigation and wish to develop this.
Master Industrial Design: During this programme, students are educated as designers who want to redesign industry. Students research and develop projects in which they question and redesign the conventions of the industrial system towards a more diverse, sustainable, and meaningful future.
Master Photography and Society: The Master’s programme Photography & Society educates socially engaged photographers of the 21st century, who possess an active interest in the technological, political, environmental, and social role of the photograph.
Master ArtScience: This programme is offered in an interdisciplinary learning environment that fosters curiosity driven research as an approach for the making of art. Its interdisciplinary focus intersects the existing fields of music, visual arts, media art and other artistic disciplines.
Master Non Linear Narrative: The Master’s programme in Non Linear Narrative merges investigative methods of journalism and forensics with processing technologies of computer science and visual arts into a contemporary progressive design approach: non-linear storytelling.
Master TypeMedia: The Master Type and Media delves into type design and typography for different contexts including print, screens, and interactive media. Unique to the course is its small size, where students work intensively in a group of no more than twelve.
PhDArts is a high-level international doctorate programme in visual art and design. PhDArts functions as a platform for artists who regard theoretical reflection and artistic practice as intrinsically related and complementary.
