Assistant Professor of Contemporary Dance
With exciting new curricular developments in the Dance Area, we are looking for a versatile individual, someone who can integrate theory and practice in both their teaching and research, mentor graduate and undergraduate students, as well as stage choreographic and performance works for a varied student body. Teaching will include classes in dance technique, composition, interdisciplinary collaboration and improvisation. We invite applications from artists who have experience incorporating historical, socio-cultural and decolonization approaches into their pedagogy. All faculty in the Dance Area share responsibilities in producing the mainstage productions. Additionally, this position will include committee responsibilities, supervision of graduate students, and some graduate level teaching. The candidate will be expected to maintain a robust artistic practice and work with SCA to advance the concepts of contemporary performance.
Assistant Professor of Film
We seek an innovative filmmaker working in non-fiction, narrative, experimental, and/or hybrid cinema with a vibrant and recognized artistic practice that engages with contemporary aesthetic developments in the field of film. We especially encourage applications from filmmakers who can collaborate in strengthening and refining our existing program, as well as envisioning the possibilities of its future form. We also welcome applicants with diverse teaching experience who are interested in developing pedagogies appropriate to the plurality of cinema arts that exist today. Film faculty teach comprehensive introductory and advanced film production courses and are expected to supervise and advise students making work in a variety of forms and styles. As our film production curriculum is grounded in project-based instruction, candidates should demonstrate experience in a broad range of technical and creative skills, as well as an in-depth understanding of the entire creative workflow from concept to exhibition. Applicants should also be conversant with contemporary discourses in the field as well as demonstrate a strong knowledge of world cinema and film history. The ability to teach occasional courses in cinema and media studies is an asset.
