Temporality in Urban and Social Life
October 8–29, 2022
Fabrika, E. Ninoshvili str. 8, Tbilisi, Georgia
The third edition of the Tbilisi Architecture Biennial (TAB) opens on Saturday, October 8, and will run till October 29, 2022. The new thematic research focuses on the concept of temporality in urban and social life. Taking as an example the recent history of Georgia, the notion of temporality is proposed as an intersection of various conditional factors. The concept is shaped based on three main categories: parallel research of time, space, and the built environment.
The Biennial brings together national and international creatives, architects, urbanists, artists, scholars, and opinion-makers in the field of architecture, urban and critical discourse. The event will be held for three weeks and offer various exhibitions, installations, events, workshops, film screenings, and talks throughout the city.
The opening of the third edition of the Tbilisi Architecture Biennial will be held in Sanatorium “Kartli”. “Kartli” is one of the outstanding examples of Soviet architecture, which is located near the Tbilisi Sea and was initially built as a sanatorium. Originally meant as a temporary shelter, it has become home for displaced people from Abkhazia for more than 30 years. Now, the residents of “Kartli” are facing repeated displacement—the process of providing long-term living space for them is still ongoing.
The opening event was planned together with the residents of Kartli. We kindly ask you to please respect the privacy of the residents while visiting the event.
Some of the main participants of the Biennial will be Jean-Philippe Vassal, Anna Pashynska (metalab.space/co-haty-eng), Emanuel Christ and Christoph Gantenbein.
The full programme is available on Tbilisi Architecture Biennial´s website.
Tbilisi Architecture Biennial is co-funded by the Creative Europe Programme of the European Union.
Special thanks to Kartli Sanatorium residents and to everyone who has contributed significantly to making the TAB 2022 possible.
