For the tenth time, Wiener Städtische Versicherungsverein is showcasing award-winning contemporary Austrian architecture and turning the spotlight on the winners of the Austrian Builder-Owner Award 2021 as part of its Architektur im Ringturm series.
Presented by the Central Association of Austrian Architects, the award is one of the country’s most prestigious architectural prizes. The 2021 Austrian Builder-Owner Award pays tribute to outstanding projects completed within the past three years that stand out for the exceptional collaboration between builder-owners and architects. The projects include residential, office, and educational buildings, scientific and cultural institutions as well as non-profit facilities.
Of the 152 projects submitted from across Austria, 24 were shortlisted, from which the jury—architect Peter Riepl (Linz, Upper Austria), architect Roger Riewe (Graz, Styria) and professor of architectural theory and history Angelika Schnell (Vienna)—selected the six award winners of 2021.
All 24 shortlisted projects are on display at the Ringturm, with a focus on the six award winners, including a detailed look at their backgrounds and evolution: Tyrolean Ibex Center, Tyrol; Gloggnitz School Center, Lower Austria; Sigmund Freud Museum, Vienna; VinziDorf, Vienna; Panoramic lift Steyr, Upper Austria; Resurrection Chapel Strasse, Upper Austria.
The structures offer fascinating insights into Austria’s contemporary architectural landscape.
