The solo show DerDieDas / TheTheThe presents new works by Jeff Hallbauer, which he developed over the course of a 2-month residency at DAS ESSZIMMER. Jeff Hallbauer deals with personal mythologies, using found images that he finds in public archives such as the Internet, but also in private photo collections. From them he constructs new references and pictorial truths that oscillate between romance, love, lust, attraction—and the darker side of human existence such as repulsion, violence, envy and addiction, as Alex Gibson, describes in his text about the exhibition.
Peter Szalc and Stefan auf der Maur: Pop-Up Bonn

Pop-Up Bonn presents the current work of the two Bonn-based painters Peter Szalc and Stefan Auf der Maur. Both have moved here, one from Poland, the other from Switzerland. They represent very different generations of artists and stand for different approaches and working methods. All the more exciting it is to us, to start a discourse between the two, apparently so different, artistsThe artist talk on the last day of the exhibition, whith Christina zu Mecklenburg, journalist and art critic, will supoprt this exploration.
Peter Szalc, the painter who has been living in Bonn since 1990, crosses again and again the conceptual balancing act between figuration and abstraction in his oeuvre, applying this to a kaleidoscope of themes. In the duo-show, new works will meet older ones, explosive colour sensations connect with an almost abstract figuration.
Stefan auf der Maur, who only recently moved to Bonn from Basel/SUI, will show current works, including the series Titanomachie (2022), that consists of 20 black and white monotypes. In this work he deals with mythological and religious themes and places them in an often humorous relation to current (global) issues.

Gabriele Horndasch: Ändern Sie die Skizze! [Kismodoti-Sketu]
October 20–December 30, 2022
The title of Gabriele Honrdasch’s solo show, Ändern Sie die Skizze! [Kismodoti-Sketu] is a play with words and possible meanings that is impossible to translate. She will develop new, site-spefic installations as a parcour to follow trough the different spaces at DAS ESSZIMMER. Influenced by a recent residency in Dakar/Senegal, she will work exclusively with pre-used material.
Parallel to the show, Gabriele Horndasch develops a video-play that is inspired by the drama Krankheit oder moderne Frauen (engl.: Illness or Modern Women) by Elfriede Jelinek, that premiered on the stage of the Schauspielhaus Bonn on February 12, 1987, directed by Hans Hollmann. The video will premiere in the course of the exhibition.
