Harvard GSD announces its series of public programs for the fall 2022 semester, inviting designers and other curious viewers from around the world to join the school’s dialogue. This fall’s program presents speakers from across the design disciplines and kicks off on September 8 with a conversation between Sumayya Vally, Co-Founder and Principal of Johannesburg-based practice Counterspace, and Sarah M. Whiting, Dean and Josep Lluís Sert Professor of Architecture at the GSD.
Other highlights include Dr. Ayana Elizabeth Johnson, a marine biologist and policy expert, Co-Founder of the non-profit think tank Urban Ocean Lab, and Co-Founder of the climate initiative The All We Can Save Project, who will deliver the keynote address at the Loeb Fellowship 50th Anniversary Symposium (October 6). The conference Olmsted: Bicentennial Perspectives (October 14 and 15) will mark the 200th anniversary of the birth of Frederick Law Olmsted with an incisive look at the legacies of his work. Ethan Carr, Professor of Landscape Architecture and the Director of the Master of Landscape Architecture program at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, will deliver the conference keynote and annual Frederick Law Olmsted Lecture (October 14). The GSD also welcomes Paul Walker (November 7) to speak about his new book John Andrews: Architect of Uncommon Sense and an exhibition of the same name that he curated for the GSD’s Druker Design Gallery. On view from October 28 until December 22, the exhibition traces Andrews’ practice across North America and Australia, and coincides with the 50th anniversary of the GSD’s Gund Hall, which Andrews designed.
All programs take place in Piper Auditorium, are open to the public, and will be simultaneously streamed to the GSD’s website, unless otherwise noted. Please visit Harvard GSD’s events calendar for current information.
Closed captioning will be available for livestreamed events. CART captioning is available for in-person attendees. To request other accessibility accommodations, please contact the Public Programs Office at events@gsd.harvard.edu.
