November 4–6, 2022
Artissima 2022—the most contemporary art fair in Italy, supported by Intesa Sanpaolo—announces the galleries and the artists that will take part in its 29th edition, the first directed by Luigi Fassi.
From Friday to Sunday November 4–6 the large and luminous spaces of the Oval in Torino will welcome the four flagship sections of the fair—Main Section, New Entries, Monologue/Dialogue and Art Spaces & Editions—and the three curated sections—Disegni, Present Future and Back to the Future—with the participation of 174 Italian and international galleries, including 35 monographic projects.
The galleries of Artissima 2022 come from 28 countries and four continents. Non-European exhibitors include the African galleries First Floor Gallery Harare (Harare, Victoria Falls), Smac (Cape Town, Johannesburg, Stellenbosch), Whatiftheworld (Cape Town), and the South American galleries Raquel Arnaud and Leme (both Sao Paulo), amongst others. A gallery from Alaska will also present for the first time, Bivy (Anchorage).
There are 40 galleries showing in the fair for the first time. They include Antenna Space (Shanghai), Nagel Draxler (Berlin, Cologne, Munich), Dawid Radziszewski (Warsaw), Union Pacific (London). The New Entries section, set aside for emerging galleries open for less than five years, features, among others, Eugster Belgrade (Belgrade), Max Goelitz (Munich), Noah Klink (Berlin), Sweetwater (Berlin).
Some of the highest profile and established galleries on the international and national scene continue to take part in Artissima. Many have supported the fair for over two decades and a number are renewing their participation this year. They include Art : Concept (Paris), Alfonso Artiaco (Napoli), Continua (San Gimignano, Beijing, Les Moulins, Havana, Roma, Sao Paulo, Paris), König (Berlin, London, Seoul, Vienna), Urs Meile (Lucerne, Beijing, Ardez), NEU (Berlin), Franco Noero (Torino), Gregor Podnar (Vienna), Lia Rumma (Napoli), Tucci Russo (Torre Pellice, Torino), The Modern Institute (Glasgow), Barbara Weiss (Berlin), Jocelyn Wollf (Paris), Zero… (Milano).
This year the three curated sections of the fair—Disegni, Present Future and Back to the Future, with revised curatorial teams—will be back in physical presence with thematic booths, while existing on the digital platform Artissima Voice Over with special in-depth features.
Disegni is curated by Irina Zucca Alessandrelli, curator of Collezione Ramo in Milano. It presents projects organized as solo shows to bring out the authenticity and autonomy of works on paper. The section—the only one of its kind in Italian art fairs – underscores the force and variety of a medium that does not always meet with the attention it deserves.
Present Future is curated by Saim Demircan, an independent curator and writer based in Torino, and Maurin Dietrich, director of the Kunstverein München in Munich. The section is for rising talents and presents monographic projects with the goal of spotlighting new trends on the international art scene.
Back to the Future is curated by Anna Gritz, director of Haus am Waldsee in Berlin, and Balthazar Lovay, an independent curator based in Geneva. The section includes monographs on great pioneers of contemporary art, artists whose oeuvre has played a key role in art history. Back to the Future gathers artworks made from 1960 to the present and it aims to bring international artists who have played a fundamental role in contemporary art back into the limelight.
Besides their physical presence inside the fair, the curated sections will also be visible on a specific digital platform, Artissima Voice Over, created thanks to the support of Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo.
