We are thrilled to celebrate Marina Tabassum’s bold and generous practice. This architect’s three-decade-long career keeps showing us how architecture can challenge climate crisis and bring about social change in an experimental, respectful and inspiring fashion. Her Bangladesh-based ongoing work as an architect, researcher and educator is a powerful example of how a focused commitment to local communities, even if dealing with scarce resources, can drive positive change across the planet.
“Tabassum’s practice touches on the spiritual fundamentals of architecture, without losing sight of its responsibilities and potential impact. Her bold step forward transformed architecture’s role from a passive-commission model into an active-initiative one”, stated Cristina Veríssimo, Diogo Burnay, N’Goné Fall, Yael Reisner, and Zhang Ke. Our sincere thanks to the jury members for their valuable participation.
We are also pleased to announce the Début Award shortlist, with 10 practices from both hemispheres: Atelier Tiago Antero—ATA (Portugal); Atelier Tropical—Valerie Mavoungou (Republic of the Congo); Ben-Avid (Argentina); messina | rivas architectures (Brazil); Nana Zaalishvili (Georgia); Rohan Chavan (India); Valeria Savinova (Russia); Spatial Anatomy (Singapore); vão (Brazil); Vertebral (Mexico).
