September 1–6, 2022
Concéntrico is the International Architecture and Design Festival of Logroño that proposes to reflect on the urban environment and the city. The new edition, Concéntrico 08, will be held from September 1–6, 2022.
The festival will bring together more than 100 participants with visitors, guests and 20 teams that will develop interventions in Logroño (Spain): 23 actions, 100 chairs, workshops, , encounters, activities and exhibitions that will transform the city by proposing new collective uses that strengthen the idea of community in public space.
Installations and teams
Since 2015, the festival has carried out 91 urban installations in its seven editions, to which the following teams will be added to the proposals for Concéntrico 08 in 2022:
Konstantin Grcic, matali crasset, Izaskun Chinchilla, Associates Architecture, Piovenefabi, Tudor Vlasceanu, SKULL studio, Germane Barnes, Rintala Eggertsson Architects, BUDCUD, Tableau, Yemail Arquitectura, Pawel Grobelny, Inventaires#3, Dallas + Pool is cool, AAA, Ander López + Sarai Olabarrieta, Collective X and the Guest Schools with Gonzalo Herrero + Pati Santos - Central Saint Martins and Clara Alonso, Marta Basterra and Mikel Aguerrea - Escuela Superior de Diseño de La Rioja.
The eighth edition of Concéntrico expands the usual focus of the festival and explores new urban practices by taking the proposals to locations that expand it in a constant listening that evolves to continue to raise debates that look at the city itself.
Arenas, Konstantin Grcic’s installation, will take us through the Felipe VI Park, next to the Intermodal Station, through three interactive interventions will turn the park into a new icon for interaction and play: a round basketball court with 9 hoops at a height of 3 metres, an interactive instrument with 16 drums made of plastic barrels with lids, a public swing with 20 seats made of wooden beams.
The proposal of matali crasset, called Dark sky, simulates an owl that has just landed in the middle of the city. The intervention will make the Paseo del Espolón an intergenerational space that integrates the whole city in a dialogue with the Concha del Espolón, a kiosk in the form of an auditorium created in 1954.
We will visit Monte Cantabria with Piovenefabi to look at the city from the city with the Half Void Full Moon project, we will have 100 chairs and three urban lounges designed by Izaskun Chinchilla in collaboration with the citizens of Logroño that will mark the low emission zone of the city among many other projects that will speak of identity, ecology and social commitment.
The landscape of Concéntrico
At Concéntrico we do not understand the urban without linking it to its surroundings, to the landscape and to the territory that gives it its identity. With this objective in mind, in 2022 we are going one step further by proposing an installation with a double location that focuses on this idea. The archetype of the house by Collective X leads us to think of a vineyard environment, a hallmark of identity in La Rioja and the Douro region. We have designed this joint project between Spain and Portugal, which prioritises respect for the landscape, sustainability and biodiversity in two unique enclaves next to the Ebro and Douro rivers: Viña Lanciano and Quinta do Seixo.
Itinerancy to Madrid
After Logroño and programmed with the Directorate General for the Urban Agenda and Architecture, Concéntrico 08 will continue in September in Madrid with the transfer of several of its interventions to the Paseo de la Castellana, in the Nuevos Ministerios area, thanks to the involvement of the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and the Urban Agenda. The exhibition allows the Festival to deepen its reflection on cities and urban environments.
