April 20–23, 2023
We are pleased to announce that the applications to participate in the 39th edition of Art Brussels are open. The fair will take place from Thursday April 20 through Sunday April 23 2023 at Brussels Expo, our new venue in the iconic Art Deco halls built in 1935.
Art Brussels is a must-attend event on the international art calendar, reuniting over 25.000 international collectors and art lovers every year, proposing a rich VIP programme with, among others, Michel François at Bozar, Marina Pinsky at La loge, and Marc Camille Chaimowicz at WIELS, as well as exclusive visits to private collections, tailor made for your VIP invitees.
Maintaining its profile “From Discovery to Rediscovery,” Art Brussels is unanimously praised for its balance of established and emerging artists. 95 percent of the artists represented are living artists. The fair is perceived as human-size scaled, favouring quality above quantity with a soft spot for a curatorial approach and solo presentations. The element of surprise is inherent to Art Brussels and expected by its collectors. The fair gathers around 160 galleries and features three sections:
Discovery
Galleries that actively support emerging international artists presenting booths with a single artist presentation or an interesting dialogue between two artists who are not yet known in the European context, and whose practices constitute a real ‘discovery’ for collectors.
Prime
Contemporary or modern galleries presenting established and mid-career artists on an international level. The fair encourages galleries to present a visually engaging curatorial project.
Rediscovery
Dedicated to underrated, underestimated or forgotten 20th century artists, living or deceased. This section aims to delve into and shed light on surprising, unknown, and original practices that have yet to enter the mainstream of art history.
Galleries in Prime & Rediscovery can also combine with a stand in Solo. For eligibility in the Solo section, galleries are required to develop a project-based presentation by one living artist, offering a more in-depth reflection on the artist’s practice. These presentations should be ambitious or adventurous in nature (site-specific works are encouraged).
Galleries in Prime and Rediscovery as well as the Solo presentations are selected by the International Committee. The Discovery booths are selected by the Discovery Committee. The names of the committee members can be found on the fair’s website.
Every year, Art Brussels awards the Discovery Prize and the Solo Prize to the best Discovery booth and the best Solo artist at the fair. Information about prizes, jury members and previous winners is available here.
Besides being a content driven fair, Art Brussels relies on Belgium’s highest number of collectors per capita in the world, without losing focus on also attracting the young and upcoming generation. The fair hosts 250 international collectors each year, as well as curators and journalists, and over 50 (inter)national groups of collectors, patrons and museum friends who are returning visitors of the fair.
