July 22, 2022
Demanio Marittimo.KM-278 is a marathon dedicated to arts, architecture and design and to the “Adriatic” condition, curated by Cristiana Colli and Pippo Ciorra. The 12th edition will once again take place on the beach in Marzocca (Senigallia) on Friday, July 22 from 6pm to 6am. 12 hours of meetings, presentations, performances, films and installations will turn the beach into a real public space, a land of welcome and exchange.
This year’s title is Visions&Tools, where “visions” stands for the need of anticipating the future and “tools” for the impelling necessity of defining new strategies and new tactics. As it happened in the actual regeneration project Re_Lab, a manifesto for a diverse approach to urban design, developed along the last semester by academic teams, artists, scientists, coordinated by the Demanio Marittimo association.
As every year in July, the night of the arts will develop in an “invented” public space: NORDOVEST—SUDEST, designed by Tobia De Eccher , Lorenzo Tirabosco and Edoardo Massa, winner of the international contest for architecture and design students, this years in collaboration with the Academy of Architecture of Mendrisio.
Architecture is, as in every edition, one of the main focuses of the night, with its sequence of lectures, exhibitions and talks. Global designers as Mario Botta and Benedetta Tagliabue will talk about their professional experience and about the importance of education, as in the case of Botta and of the school he founded in Mendrisio, and cultural action, as for Tagliabue and the work she does with the Enric Miralles Foundation. Outstanding designers Zaven and Giulio Ridolfo will offer the audience an intense dialog, discussing the relations between design and research.
Demanio 12 will also narrate the story of some important competitions: Grande MAXXI, the future expansion of the Roman museum; “Nxt,” the program for the scouting of young talents at MAXXI L’Aquila; and, of course, the selection of Demanio’s design project. In parallel with the Good News exhibition at MAXXI, Demanio Marittimo will include the Adriatic context in its research on the state of the art of gender evolution in architectural professions.
As part of the promotion of young talents in architecture, DM 278 will host a talk dedicated to the launch of LINA, the new European platform coordinated by Matexz Celik and by the Ljubljana School of Architecture. Following the seven-year Future Architecture Platform, this project brings together 28 European architectural institutions and will be presented by the representatives of some of the participating institutions: MAXXI, the Oslo Triennale, the architecture festival of Copenhagen, and the LIFT group of Sarajevo.
The program easily moves across the boundaries between architecture, arts and other disciplines. Emanuele Coccia will lead us through the contribution philosphy can give in today’s struggle to survive together with our environment. Two works focus on the traumas of the present - the pandemic and the war in Ukraine - with Palianytsia, an installation and a video in front of the sea by Zhanna Kadyrova; IONOI, a film shot during the lockdown by Nico Vascellari. A video call will connect our beach with the opening of Manifesta14 in Prishtina, where Sislej Xhafa, Catherine Nichols and Massimiliano Tonelli will celebrate the start with us.
2022 is also the time for an important anniversary. Pier Paolo Pasolini, if alive, would be 100 years old. For Demanio, Pasolini is inspiration, reference, background and a source ofquotations. In this edition PPP is the protagonist of a talk about the beach and football with Massimo Raffaeli, Antonio Tricomi and Valerio Curcio, and of a tribute-football match between artists, architects and intellectuals.
The event is promoted by MAPPE magazine, Gagliardini Editore, and by Associazione Demanio Marittimo.Km-278 with the collaboration of MAXXI, National Museum of XXI Century Arts, the Municipality of Senigallia, the Marche Region, with the support of a wide network of local national and international businesses, institutions and cultural associations.
