As the College of Architecture, Art, and Planning (Cornell AAP) continues to celebrate the Department of Architecture’s 150th academic year and 100 years of art education at Cornell University, we invite you to attend a college-wide exhibition of selected works of art and architecture and a series of lectures featuring leading voices among our alumni community.
Events at Cornell AAP this June include talks with internationally recognized architecture alumnus Peter Eisenman (B.Arch. ’54) and widely exhibited art alumna Shelly Silver (B.F.A. ’80); a university-wide lecture featuring artist Olalekan Jeyifous (B.Arch. ’99); and Measures and Meaning, an exhibition of works by members of the college community curated by Sean Anderson (B.Arch./B.S. ’96), associate professor of architecture at Cornell AAP.
Talks with Peter Eisenman and Shelly Silver
Friday, June 10, 4:30-5:45pm, Paul Rubacha Featured Speakers Lecture Series: Architect Peter Eisenman and artist Shelly Silver will share reflections on their time at Cornell and their different approaches to creative practice and pedagogy that span a wide breadth of generations. Q&A and discussion to follow. Attend remotely or in person at the Abby and Howard Milstein Auditorium, Milstein Hall, Cornell University.
The Road Became a River: The Revelatory Potential of Fictive Architectural Worldscapes with Olalekan Jeyifous
Saturday, June 11, 3-4pm, Olin Lecture: Artist Olalekan Jeyifous will discuss his career path and generative intersections in his art practice that brings together cultural identity, interdisciplinary exploration, and environmental and geopolitical realities. Jeyifous’s lecture will be followed by a Q&A moderated by Cornell AAP Dean J. Meejin Yoon (B.Arch. ’95). This lecture will take place in Cornell’s Bailey Hall and is open to all registered reunion 2022 attendees and members of the Cornell community.
Measures and Meaning, curated by AAP Associate Professor of Architecture Sean Anderson
Monday, June 6–Friday, September 2: Measures and Meaning brings together works by 20 artists and architects to celebrate the Department of Architecture’s 150th academic year, and 100 years of art education at Cornell. On display across AAP’s galleries and nearby locations, the exhibition not only articulates contrasting practices and ideas, but brings to light the ways in which the college has been at the forefront of some of the most important pedagogical discussions shaping the built environment and creative practices today.
Measures and Meaning will include works by Visiting Critic Nidaa Aboulhosn, Art; Sekou Cooke (B.Arch. ’99); Carol Diamond (B.F.A. ’82); Olalekan Jeyifous (B.Arch. ’99); Associate Professor Jolene K. Rickard, History of Art and Visual Studies, and Amanda Williams (B.Arch. ’97), among others.
In conjunction with the AAP exhibition, a selection of works from the Johnson Museum of Art’s permanent collection by Louise Lawler (B.F.A. ‘69), Gordon Matta-Clark (B.Arch. ‘68), and Alan Saret (B.Arch. ‘66) will be on view until August 21 at the Museum, curated by Andrea Inselmann, the Johnson’s curator of modern and contemporary art.
Cornell AAP Galleries are open Monday–Friday, 8am–4:30pm, and for Cornell 2022 Reunion Weekend on Saturday, June 11 from 8am–4:30pm and Sunday, June 12 from 9am–3pm.
The Johnson Museum of Art is open Wednesday–Sunday, 11am–4pm.
