Under the authority of the Director and the General Secretary of the Centre Pompidou-Metz, the Chief Curator/Head of Exhibitions is responsible for participating, under the aegis of the Director, in the definition of the programming policy, in particular exhibitions, events and publications of the Centre Pompidou-Metz and for implementing this policy.
In this capacity, the Chief Curator/Head of Exhibitions supervises a team of approximately ten people, including five curators/researchers, one or two research and exhibition officers, one curator in charge of live performances, one editor, one iconographer and one printing manufacturer.
Main duties
–To participate in the definition of the programming policy with the Direction
–To implement the programming policy
–To organize and coordinate the programming schedule and exhibition projects (in-house or traveling), in close collaboration with the Head of production
–To coordinate and support exhibition projects designed by external curators
–To coordinate and accompany exhibition projects designed by external curators and to be a force of proposal and, for certain projects, curator of the exhibition
–To write, read, correct and edit texts for the publications accompanying the exhibitions as well as texts dedicated to the various media related to the exhibitions
–To contribute to the definition of the Centre Pompidou-Metz’s editorial policy and supervise the Centre’s editions or co-publications, in consultation with the editor
–To supervise the preparation, follow-up and evaluation of exhibitions with the Head of production
–To participate in the programming of live performances and supervise artistic projects and events designed around the exhibitions or in line with current events, in consultation with the director and the curator in charge of live performances
–To participate in the programming of cultural projects, lectures, events related the exhibitions, in particular with the Public Departement
–To contribute to the Centre Pompidou-Metz network with the Director: organize events and projects in conjunction with local, cross-border and international partners.
–To maintain a dialogue with the Centre Pompidou’s departments, including the Musée national d’art moderne and the Département Culture et Création, in accordance with the association agreement between the two institutions.
Desired profile
–Advanced studies in modern and contemporary art history (Master’s degree or PhD), museology
–Proven professional experience in a museum or art center (minimum 5 years) good knowledge of the functioning of a cultural structure and proven experience in organizing and curating exhibitions
–Knowledge of the museum and art center environment
–Knowledge of public and private collections
–Knowledge of the art gallery environment
–First language French, or bilingual
–Fluency in English and a second language (ideally German)
–Broad knowledge of the cultural field (art, literature, dance, music and film)
–Writing skills
–Experience in organization and team management
–High availability
–Experience and talent for public relations
–Mastery of computer tools.
