Curiosa Sector
Holly Roussell, American-born, Switzerland and China based curator at UCCA Center for Contemporary Art in China, curates this year’s Curiosa sector, bringing to the forefront 16 early-career artists exploring emerging practices in image-based art. Roussell is an independent curator, museologist, and art historian. She is artistic advisor for Fotografiska Shanghai and served from 2013-2017 as coordinator of the worldwide travelling exhibitions program as well as the photography prize, the Prix Elysée, for the Musée de l’Elysée (Photo Elysée), Lausanne. She has organized more than 20 group and solo exhibitions for festivals, biennale, and museums around the world collaborating: Folkwang Museum; MUCEM; Les Rencontres d’Arles; Somerset House; NGV Melbourne; Lianzhou Photography Festival; OCT-Loft Shenzhen; Shanghai Centre of Photography; Auckland Art Gallery; Fotografiska; MMCA: Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Seoul, among other institutions. In 2022, Roussell will join the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Seoul, South Korea as International Curatorial Researcher in residence.
Elles x Paris Photo
Federica Chiocchetti carries on the Fair’s commitment to women in photography as curator for Elles x Paris Photo, a program initiated in 2019 in partnership with the French Ministry of Culture to promote the visibility of women artists and their contribution to the history of photography. Thanks to the participation of exhibiting galleries, the representation of women artists at the Fair has so far risen by 12%. Chiochietti is writer, curator, editor and lecturer specializing in historical and contemporary photography and literature and founder of the platform Photocaptionist. She has collaborated with international museums (Jeu de Paume, V&A, Kunsthalle Budapest), private collections (David Solo, Archive of Modern Conflict) festivals and fairs (Jaipur Photo, T3 Tokyo Photo Festival, Paris Photo), and publishers (Spector Books, Aperture, Foam), among others. Her research on women in photography has been presented in multiple forms by L’Uomo Vogue, Fotomuseum Winterthur, 10x10 Photobooks, London Art Fair and The Photographers’ Gallery.
Exhibitor Sectors
Main Sector galleries present a complete panorama of artworks with a special emphasis on solo, duo shows, and thematic projects offering visitors the opportunity to discover and rediscover leading artists through the viewing of an important artistic ensemble.
The Curiosa Sector provides younger galleries a greater opportunity to participate in a leading art fair and introduces collectors to new talent. The curated sector spotlights 16 early career artists and explores the latest trends in contemporary creation.
The Book Sector reunites 30 publishers and specialized art book dealers selected from around the world to represent excellence and creative visions in book making with rare and unique editions and new releases. Numerous artist signature sessions are organized providing visitors with the unique opportunity to meet their favorite artists.
Selection Committee
Exhibitor selection is made according to the strictest standards for quality, authenticity and diversity of propositions by the Paris Photo Selection Committee composed of 7 gallerists and experts: Frish Brandt (Fraenkel Gallery, San Francisco); Howard Greenberg (Howard Greenberg Gallery, New York); Tim Jefferies (Hamiltons Gallery, London); Yossi Milo (Yossi Milo Gallery, New York); Timothy Persons (Persons Projects, Berlin/Helsinki); and newly appointed members Audrey Bazin (Christophe Gaillard, Paris) and Rocio Santa Cruz (RocioSantaCruz, Barcelona) .
