With its longstanding publishing practice, Bonniers Konsthall proudly presents three new publications. Co-published with Lenz Press.
Dirty Evidence
Lawrence Abu Hamdan
Dirty Evidence is Lawrence Abu Hamdan’s first major monograph. This richly illustrated publication delivers a comprehensive overview of the artist’s practice over the last 10+ years. The book presents an in-depth visual analysis of Abu Hamdan’s work accompanied by commissioned essays that focus on single pieces as well as on the artist’s oeuvre. Scholarly and creative reflections explore the political aspects of key work by Abu Hamdan, while a complete list of works to date makes this monograph a crucial tool for curators and researchers working in and around the subjects to which the artist has dedicated his practice. Contributors include Natasha Ginwala, Ruba Katrib, Andrea Lissoni, Ramona Naddaff, Theodor Ringborg, Fabian Schöneich, Yasmine Seale and Eyal Weizman. Design by David Bennewith.
Dreamers’ Quay, Dreamers’ Key
Lap-See Lam
Dreamers’ Quay, Dreamers’ Key is the first comprehensive monograph dedicated to the work by Lap-See Lam. Lam explores the history of the Cantonese diaspora in Sweden and probes questions of cultural identity. Her practice evolves around the creation of stories through text, digital technology, and sculptural installations. The publication surveys the artist’s recent and early works set in and around the Swedish Chinese restaurant in an exploration of historical notions of China. The book is introduced by Artistic Director Theodor Ringborg with contributions by Stephanie Cristello, Mara Lee Gerdén, Yuvinka Medina, Svante Tirén, and Xiaoyu Weng, offering an in-depth study of Lam’s multifaceted oeuvre. Design by Thomas Bush.
The Other Side of Silence
Hrair Sarkissian
The Other Side of Silence is the first monograph of the artist Hrair Sarkissian—one of the leading figures working with photography globally today. This book of multi-disciplinary essays and images explores histories of disappearance, the architecture of violence, and the potential of the medium of photography itself. While encompassing the moving image, sculpture, sound, and installation, Sarkissian’s practice is rooted in his photographs. His lifelong use of a large-format camera relates to the artist’s interest in the role that chance plays in capturing hidden narratives of conflict, trauma, and displacement. Acting as an archaeologist and a storyteller, the artist draws upon personal and collective memory to reveal stories that official records cannot tell. The monograph is edited by Dr Omar Kholeif, Director of Collections and Senior Curator, Sharjah Art Foundation, and Dr Theodor Ringborg, Artistic Director, Bonniers Konsthall, with contributions by Hannah Feldman, Marianne Hirsch, Vali Mahlouji and Todd Reisz. Design by Hans Gremmen.
Hrair Sarkissian: The Other Side of Silence is currently on view at Bonniers Konsthall and is the artist’s first mid-career survey, featuring major new commissions and significant works from the past 15 years. The exhibition is jointly organized by Bonniers Konsthall (Sweden), Sharjah Art Foundation (United Arab Emirates), and Bonnefanten (The Netherlands). Curated by Dr Theodor Ringborg, Artistic Director, Bonniers Konsthall, Dr Omar Kholeif, Director of Collections and Senior Curator, Sharjah Art Foundation; and Stijn Huijts, Artistic Director, the Bonnefanten.
