May 11–15, 2022
The tenth edition of the Amsterdam Art Week is taking place from May 11–15. This festive edition, themed Celebrate Change, is your chance to discover the latest developments in contemporary art, with a special focus on new, up-and-coming talent. Together with 66 art institutions—including prominent galleries, museums, residencies and projects spaces—Amsterdam Art presents a vibrant programme full of openings, open studios, artist talks, panel discussions, performances, film screenings and gallery tours. The programme will connect art professionals with the best that Amsterdam’s cultural institutions have to offer.
Celebrate Change
Ten years of Amsterdam Art Week provides an excellent opportunity to celebrate, look back and especially look forward. What have been the most important shifts in the Amsterdam art scene in the past decade? What will the future look like? One thing’s for certain: the city’s cultural ecosystem is in constant flux. Amsterdam Art Week 2022 explores this changing dynamic while bringing together art across the city: from North to South-East, from East to New-West, and from the outer districts to the centre.
Professional programme
Especially for art professionals, we have assembled a series of exclusive events offering an opportunity to engage with the community of artists, curators, gallerists and collectors that form the heart of Amsterdam’s contemporary art scene. A selection of these events include:
Rijksakademie Open Studios (Professionals Day)
Amsterdam Art and the Rijksakademie invite you to discover the latest developments in contemporary art and explore the studios of the residents currently residing at the Rijksakademie.
In the residency programme, the Rijksakademie houses an artist community that is highly international, multi-disciplinary, experimental and critically engaged. The Open Studios enables the artists to share their work with wider audiences in ambitious ways.
Friday May 13 2022, 12–7pm.
Opening Night Galleries & Young Section
Join us during the Gallery Opening Night and get to know Amsterdam’s contemporary art scene. During this festive evening, no fewer than 35 galleries throughout the city open their doors to our visitors. They present their latest exhibitions, specially organised for the Amsterdam Art Week. You will be able to visit both established galleries and the emerging galleries from the Young Section.
Thursday May 12, 5–9pm. All galleries.
Het HEM & Friends Party
in collaboration with project spaces
The vibrant world of contemporary art in Amsterdam is largely shaped by the city’s countless large and small project spaces. Het HEM has joined forces with these spaces and organises a party that expresses everyone’s unique creativity. Every institution will provide a programme component; from an art piece, dance act and a DJ set to a spoken word performance. A party for and by artistic Amsterdam; a moment to come together, admire art and have fun.
Friday May 13, 9:30pm–2am. Het HEM.
A selection from the JULIA STOSCHEK COLLECTION
in collaboration with Eye Filmmuseum
With over 900 artworks by 291 artists from all over the world, the JULIA STOSCHEK COLLECTION is one of the world’s most extensive private collections of time-based art. For Amsterdam Art Week, founder Julia Stoschek has curated a selection of works from her collection focusing on music and states of ecstasy. The screening will be followed by an afterparty, featuring trippy visuals from Eye Filmmuseum’s Peter Rubin archive.
Saturday May 14, 8pm–2am. Eye Film Museum.
