M+ and Design Trust are pleased to announce “Research on the Move,” an event bringing together eight M+ / Design Trust Research Fellows from 2015 to 2019. In this reunion, the research fellows based in Hong Kong and beyond will converse with Hong Kong–based practitioners who have been influential in exploring similar fields through a series of topic-orientated dialogues.
Research is fundamental to deepening and rethinking how the “designed” world came to be. The practice of research is continually shaped by evolving hypotheses, sites, perspectives, and evidence. These dialogues will reflect on how past inquiries have informed the fellows’ ongoing research trajectories, and how they resonate with the works of each practitioner. Organised to mark M+’s recent opening and Design Trust’s continued support, this event aims to stimulate further development in historical and practice-based research and reconsider the museum’s role in these endeavours.

The M+ / Design Trust Research Fellowship was established in 2015, six years before the opening of M+, to support historians, practitioners, and curators from Hong Kong and beyond. It facilitates curatorial research into the histories and processes of design and architectural production in Hong Kong and the region. The fellows’ research, in turn, informs M+’s approach in curating, collecting, and knowledge-sharing with our audiences.
