April 8–9, 2022, 6pm
Forecast 6 culminates in a two-day event. Experience new projects by artists, performers, designers, choreographers, and creative thinkers as they get their world premiere at the Forecast Festival following a ten-month collaboration with renowned mentors. The mentees of Forecast 6 will unveil their productions and bring their projects to life in performances, installations, workshops, and conversations.
The entire building will be activated through the mentees’ immersive artworks and sensory experiences as well as showcases by the mentors Tatiana Bilbao, Sofia Jernberg, Ulli Lust, Mathilde Monnier, Emeka Ogboh, and Francesca Bria with special guests Evgeny Morozov and Christopher Roth.
The two-day Forecast Festival is a chance to get an early glimpse of the topics and ideas on the minds of the next generation of trailblazers:
Jaya Klara Brekke: Dashboards for Posthuman Life
Mentor: Francesca Bria
Theorist and designer Jaya Klara Brekke is creating an installation centered on fictional data feeds that help users to better understand the impact of their actions on the environment and their own privacy.
Simona Deaconescu in collaboration with Gaby Saranouffi: Ramanenjana
Mentor: Mathilde Monnier
Romanian choreographer Simona Deaconescu collaborates with Malagasy choreographer Gaby Saranouffi on the docu-fiction Ramanenjana, which looks at the 1863 “dancing plague“ in Madagascar and recontextualizes dance as a means of peaceful protest, reclaiming identity, and finding healing as a community.
Flora Détraz: Hurlula
Mentor: Sofia Jernberg
French dancer and choreographer Flora Détraz unveils a live performance for percussion and voice centered on the embodiment of screams. As an exploration of a sound that emerges from a primal instinct, HURLULA is an emotional journey into the depths of the human body, an intimate encounter, and an ecstatic act of liberation from societal constraints. The final production will premiere at the Lyon Dance Biennale in 2023.
Iman Jesmi: Sensory Souvenir
Mentor: Emeka Ogboh
Iranian composer and sound artist Iman Jesmi delves into the correlation between sounds and smells in European cities, and how they have shifted through immigration, in a multimedia installation with a durational live performance.
Özge Samancı: Evil Eye
Mentor: Ulli Lust
Turkish-American media artist and graphic novelist Özge Samancı shares excerpts from her forthcoming graphic novel centered on a murder mystery. The plot is set in Istanbul ahead of the 1995–96 elections, as a conservative party rises to power using religion to cynically appeal to voters. Evil Eye is under contract with Uncivilized Books for a fall 2023 release.
Luísa Sol: Architectures of Inclusion and Exclusion
Mentor: Tatiana Bilbao
Portuguese architect Luísa Sol presents a multimedia installation that reflects on screen-based images of the home and the domestic sphere, and the storytelling contained within them. Considering the onscreen image as a space of fiction that’s also a testament to what is omitted, Sol comprises an atlas of the audiovisual imaginary of domestic architecture.
