The Salzburg International Summer Academy of Fine Arts invites applications to its programme for 2022. Courses will be held at the Hohensalzburg Fortress (hybrid classrooms) and the Untersberg Quarry (on site). Each year, the Academy invites international artists, curators, collectives, educators, scholars and writers to serve as instructors for its course-programme. In 2022, we are pleased to offer courses under the instructorship of: Rossella Biscotti (Italy/Belgium), Ángela Bonadies (Venezuela/Spain) / Brígida Maestres (Spain), Maria Bussmann (Germany/Austria), Cosmin Costinaş (Romania/Hong Kong) / Inti Guerrero (Colombia/Hong Kong), Anna Daučíková (Slovakia/Czech Republic), Christina Dimitriadis (Greece/Germany), Léuli Eshrãghi (Australia/Canada), Flaka Haliti (Kosovo/Germany), Jennifer Higgie (UK/Australia), Leon Kahane (Germany), Małgorzata Mirga-Tas (Poland), Wasif Munem (Bangladesh), Angelo Plessas (Greece), Tracey Rose (South Africa), ruangrupa (Indonesia) / Ayşe Güleç (Turkey/Germany), Francis Ruyter (USA/Austria), Hannah Tilson (UK), et al.
At the Academy, instructors translate their practice and research into a pedagogical relationship with participants, in order to explore contemporary art practices in mutually interrogative, personal and persistent ways. Conversations are undertaken with a view toward materializing art-related ideas or transmit them into research and life. The programme reflects current developments in contemporary art such as performance and indigeneity (Eshrãghi, Plessas, Rose), archiving (Kahane, Munem, Ruyter) and collective/community-oriented practices (Mirga-Tas, ruangrupa) as well as methodological approaches to decoloniality (Costinaş/Guerrero), eco-criticism (Biscotti, Haliti), in/visibility/impairments (Bonadies/Maestres) and (queer-)feminism (Bussmann, Daučíková, Dimitriadis, Higgie) in art.

Public programme 2022
On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Summer Academy in 2023, the Summer Academy continues the research project, Horizons of Possibility, under the initiative of Sophie Goltz, Director of the Summer Academy since 2021, and co-curated by Marina Fokidis, Director of the magazine South as a Global State of Mind. The project investigates emergent pedagogies of art education that enjoin current understandings of gender, plurality, and coexistence with technical and artistic developments.
The public programme aims to create a “Space of Debate” through exhibitions, performances, lectures, talks, micro workshops, and when coming together on the dance floor or at the bar.
