A dialogue between the drawings by Kunz and works by 18 international and local contemporary artists.
Tabakalera hosts the first large exhibition carried out in Spain dedicated to the figure of the artist Emma Kunz (1892–1963), titled Emma Kunz Cosmos. A Visionary in Dialogue with Contemporary Art. For the first time, the centre for contemporary culture dedicates a historical retrospective to an artist in the building’s main exhibition hall and does so linking her to works by contemporary artists inspired by her.
The Swiss researcher and naturopath Emma Kunz (Brittnau, Switzerland 1892–Waldstatt, Switzerland 1963) never exhibited her drawings while she lived, but predicted that they were destined for future generations (“My visual work is made for the 21st century!”). Years after her death, her work was rediscovered and presented to the world for the first time at Aargauer Kunsthaus, in 1973.
In the exhibition by Tabakalera, Emma Kunz Cosmos. A Visionary in Dialogue with Contemporary Art, 40 of Kunz’s drawings are on display, rarely seen works that offer a panoramic view of her particular worldview. The exhibition links the drawings by Kunz and works by 18 international and local contemporary artists. This dialogue generates a new contextualisation that goes beyond the artistic work and sheds new light on the exceptional figure of Kunz.
