March 7–10, 2022
Why call an art and design conference “radical”? Because we know there are answers and solutions to our concerns; that it’s just a matter of connecting, and choosing to take action.
It’s this conviction that led to the theme for Tasmeem Doha 2022, an international art and design conference organized every two years by VCUarts Qatar, since 2004.
At Radical Futures we bring you talks, workshops, panel discussions, film screenings and exhibitions, where world renowned designers, practitioners, researchers and thinkers join hands with the public to talk about topics that matter: climate resilience, architecture, geopolitics, urbanism, data science, and entrepreneurship, to name but a few.
What will you be hearing and talking about? Inclusion, Post colonialism, Indigenous Knowledge, Language, Geology, Energy Systems, Environment, Sustainability, Smart Materials, Circular Economies, Curatorial Activism, Biotechnology, Augmented Realities…practically every facet of your life.
In case you’re wondering about our history, we do have a reputation for facing the music full on – previous editions attracted regional and international media, giving our presenters such as Sir David Adjaye Obe, Julia Leeb, Rem Koolhaas, and Marco Williams, and our partners such as the German Embassy in Doha, Goethe-Institut, Qatar Foundation, Qatar Museums, Mathaf, and Doha Film Institute a global platform to highlight issues that they believed in.
Today, it’s your chance to join the conversation.
VCUarts Qatar: nurturing innovation in Qatar, and beyond
We’re known as the top art and design school in the region. Since 1998, we’ve been teaching our students to apply design thinking, innovation and creativity to build brands and businesses—their own and others—and to provide pragmatic solutions for pressing global concerns.
Currently, more than 900 VCUarts Qatar alumni dot every continent on the planet. They work in
various sectors ranging from health, technology, data science, public policy, management, VR-AR, sustainable fashion, architecture, product development, entrepreneurship, education, fine art, museology—the list goes on…
In Qatar, we’ve established ourselves as hands-on collaborators, people who design infant faceshields, create apps, color public spaces, offer art therapy courses and assist the government in their community-based efforts. Be it through public art or private exhibitions, emerging media or sound design, our community of artists and designers are rooted in Qatar’s dynamic creative
economy.
