Hyundai Motor Company and Vitra Design Museum announce the opening of the exhibition Hello, Robot. Design between Human and Machine at Hyundai Motorstudio Beijing.

Under the vision of “Progress for Humanity,” Hyundai Motor Company is moving beyond human limitations and looking into new areas of possibility through robotics-based mobility innovation. The partnership with the Vitra Design Museum presents innovative robotics technology that drives humans into the future of infinite possibilities and offers Hyundai Motor’s direction of future mobility.

Hello, Robot. Design between Human and Machine was debuted in Europe in 2017. In August 2021, its first Asian showcase started at Hyundai Motorstudio Busan. The current debut at Hyundai Motorstudio Beijing aims to help Chinese audiences gain a better understanding of the robotics technology as part of everyday life and inspire in-depth thinking about the human-machine relationship and interaction.

Hyundai Motorstudio Beijing is committed to connecting people from different backgrounds and inspire an innovative understanding of technology, as well as the future of humanity by breaking the boundaries between diverse fields through a variety of art and cultural experiences. This exhibition not only examines robotics technology in all dimensions, but also surpasses the mere display of forms and functions to thoroughly converge ideas and instances from multiple fields. Whether that’s industrial design, science, film and television, art, and architecture, the exhibition inspires the public how to re-understand the robotics technology from a design perspective and how to face the complexity reflected behind social development.

The exhibition begins at the Science and Fiction unit, which leads the audiences to rethink their understanding of robots. From images in pop culture to ubiquitous robots or robotic systems in daily lives, this unit suggests the high complexity behind robots. The Programmed for Work and Friend and Helper units gives an insight into the topics that are closest to contemporary society: the impact of robots in work, production, and industrial fields and the existence of robots as human friends and assistants. These units reveal the possibilities as technologies rapidly develop and accompanying humanistic thinking. The last unit is Becoming One, which depicts how convergence is manifested in increasingly advanced technological forms, ranging from human bodies to residential buildings, and even broader environments.

From Industry 4.0, deep learning, to biohacking and smart cities, is this the first time in history that human beings have the technical knowledge and tools to let science fiction a reality? How do we, as both individuals or society, choose to deal with these cutting-edge technologies? In what way do we wish to address the challenge of an increasingly intelligent future? The exhibition offers a series of open questions, allowing people to learn more about how robotics exists in people’s lives and urging people to think about how humans and robots coexist in the near future.
