Zilberman is proud to announce the representation of Fatoş İrwen, Erkan Özgen and Cengiz Tekin.
Fatoş Irwen (Diyarbakır) examines issues such as justice, power relations, information and belief systems and gender politics within her continuous production process spanning years. She creates works that focus on the effects of these matters on the individual and society in various fields such as video, photography, painting, textile, installation and performance. Among the highlights of the artist’s performance-based works are the reflections of the experiences of the individual on memory, subconscious and dreams, as well as the relationship between space and body.
Her most recent solo show Exceptional Times took place simultaneously in Karşı Sanat and DEPO Istanbul in 2021. Her latest group exhibitions include: Art in Dark Times (organized by bi’bak project space) at Haus der Statistik, Berlin, Germany (2020); and Post Piece (curator: Katia Krupennikova) at Württembergischer Kunstverein, Stuttgart, Germany (2017).
Erkan Özgen’s (1971, Diyarbakır) video and photography-based installations examine issues concerning migration, cultural identity, language, conscience and ethics, among others. Özgen’s works explore the contemporary conjuncture where various forms of displacement are redefining our political and social ecosystem. These works amplify stories that run the risk of being forgotten amid the constant flow of information or are sometimes even intentionally overshadowed. They are fragments that awaken feelings and raise such a fundamental question as, how can art help understand the reality of war, conflict, and violence?
Özgen’s latest solo and group exhibitions include Giving Voices (curated by Hilde Teerlinck), Foundation Antoni Tàpies, Barcelona, Spain (2018); Busan Biennale (curated by Jacob Fabricius), Busan, South Korea (2020); Manifesta Revisited, Manifesta in Amsterdam, Amsterdam, Netherlands (2019); An American City: Eleven Cultural Exercises, FRONT International: Cleveland Triennial for Contemporary Art, curated by Michelle Grabner and Jens Hoffmann, Cleveland Ohio, USA (2018); DOCUMENTA 13 (curated by Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev), Kassel, Germany (2012); and Turquie et Alors (curated by Yekhan Pinarligil), Centre Pompidou, Paris, France (2010). The artist is the co-founding manager of Loading Art Space, which has been operating in Diyarbakır since 2017.
Cengiz Tekin (1977, Diyarbakır) uses photography and video in his artistic practice. Discussing the rooted social matters such as tradition and family, the artist specifically focuses on both the local and the global political agenda. Through documentation, Tekin unveils the irony behind the trusted routine and presents the uncanny forms that cause interruption. Generally departing from his own experiences, the artist draws attention to the issues of taking shelter and seeking refuge, which he approaches as a global urgency.
His most recent solo and group exhibitions include Just Before Paradise, PİLOT, Istanbul, Turkey (2016); 6th Ural Biennial, Thinking Hands Touching Each Other (curated by Çağla Ilk, Misal Adnan Yıldız and Assaf Kimmel) Yekaterinburg, Russia (2020); How Will The Weather Be Tomorrow?, Between Bridges (organized by Özlem Günyol and Mustafa Kunt), Berlin, Germany (2017); and Istanbul: Passion, Joy, Fury, MAXXI, Roma, Italy (2015). The artist is the co-founding manager of Loading Art Space, which has been operating in Diyarbakır since 2017.
