We are announcing our international open call for the Asymmetry Curatorial Fellowship at Whitechapel Gallery, London. The Curatorial Fellowship is a six-month placement for a mid-career curator to work with Whitechapel Gallery’s Exhibitions and Education departments, beginning in mid-May 2022.

About the Curatorial Fellowship
Granted to one fellow identifying to any extent with Greater Chinese heritage and culture, including Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, or Taiwan, and based in the region or internationally, we are offering a fully-funded Curatorial Fellowship in collaboration with Whitechapel Gallery and Delfina Foundation.

This opportunity is geared towards a mid-career curator to gain training, skills, and experience, while embedded in the curatorial workings of Whitechapel Gallery. The fellowship will provide unique professional development opportunities related to exhibition organisation, registrar tasks, catalogue assistance, artist liaison support, general support to the exhibition department, project-based research, and public programming. Additionally, Whitechapel Gallery will be responsible for delivering workshops with senior staff members across the organisation, facilitating introductions to other London-based art institutions, identifying opportunities to attend conferences and/or seminars relevant to the fellow’s work and organising a research trip within the UK for the fellow. The fellow will be awarded a formal certificate of achievement upon successful completion by Whitechapel Gallery.

Situated within Delfina Foundation’s renowned residency programme, the fellow will benefit from further professional development opportunities, mentoring as well as peer-to-peer exchange with other practitioners in-residence alongside accommodation.

In addition to the training at our partner institutions, we will offer support in guidance, networking, PR, and media exposure throughout the Fellowship as well. Due to Covid-19, it is possible that the fellowship may take place in a combined offline/online capacity. Asymmetry and all partners will follow the official government guidelines.

Application deadline: January 30, 2022. Curatorial Fellowship duration: May 16, 2022–November 13, 2022.
