TRANS>area invites you to a new collaboration/performance by Joan Jonas and Jeff Preiss, Friday, April 26th at 7:00 pm.
While Joan Jonas performs – drawing continuously – in between two walls, Jeff Preiss interlaces all activities and tenses of time with a screening of his films and a live broadcast video of Joan Jonas’ performance in another location of the gallery.
Joan Jonas, since the sixties, has been analyzing the interaction of the performing body with its transformation by media, reception and space. She is designing complex spaces of reception to test the different status and the process character of drawings, photography, slide projections, sound, music, dance and found objects. Joan Jonas is completing the installations with performances and videos. For the past seven years Jeff Preiss has carried and used his 16 mm Bolex virtually every day of his life. The outcome is a project with the flow of a diarist, edited strictly in the tradition of experimental structural cinema.
In this new collaboration the delicate oscillations between performance and document; home movies and art (or cinema verite); and constructed truths are explored. Performance remainders and films will be on view Saturday, April 27th during gallery hours, 11am to 6pm.
