The Performance
In “The Aesthetics of Orgasm” Joanna Frueh continues her exploration of erotic wisdom for which she is known as a performance artist, art critic, and scholar. Grounding the piece in personal experience, childhood memories and an erotic and amorous relationship, Frueh creates a text-based work whose opulent and complex mix of poetic language and critical intellect builds both a sensuous and reasoned theory of the beauty of orgasm. Her hot pink gown and delicately styled flesh-colored mules display Frueh’s ability to embody her text, as does her rich, embracing voice. Sophisticated and explicit, “The Aesthetics of Orgasm” elucidates the connection between beings as well as bodies, articulates a philosophy of love, and reveals the necessity of being more than simply human.
