Traversing media and disciplines, the Spring 2022 Public Programs and Engagement season at Columbia University School of the Arts will focus on the concept of Repair.

Conversations, screenings, readings, installation, and performance will explore creative practices that engage social and political initiatives committed to reimagining and transforming frayed relationships between humans, other species, the planet, and ourselves. More.

In February, the School of the Arts will present Jana Winderen’s immersive, site-specific installation The Art of Listening: Under Water. The exhibition features underwater recordings made around the North Pole, Iceland, Greenland, Thailand, the Caribbean, off the coast of Miami, and in and around New York City. George Chauncey, Tom Kalin, Alex Stapleton, and Kendall Thomas will explore Kalin’s contribution to Pride, a documentary series chronicling the fight for LGBTQ+ rights in the United States. More.

In March, Lynn Nottage and Ricky Ian Gordon will discuss their transformation of Nottage’s play Intimate Apparel into opera, and their other collaborations, with Christian Parker. More.

A screening of the new documentary, Helena of Sarayaku, followed by a conversation between director ​​Eriberto Gualinga and Amalia Córdova of the Smithsonian’s Mother Tongue Film Festival. More.

The Third Annual Dr. Saul and Dorothy Kit Film Noir Festival pays homage to the role Jewish filmmakers played in the creation of film noir, and will showcase films that speak to the Jewish experience during a time of extreme political turmoil. Guest-programmed by Ann Douglas. More.

The second in a series of roundtables for the Zip Code Memory Project: Practices of Justice and Repair will feature María José Contreras Lorenzini, Rafael Lozano-Hemmer, and Kamau Ware. More.

In May, the annual Max Ritvo Poetry Series will feature Louise Glück, recipient of the 2020 Nobel Prize in Literature, a Pulitzer Prize, and a National Book Critics Circle Award, among many honors. More.
