From March 8 to April 3, Museum Brandhorst presents Site Visit, a series of weekly installations, artist talks, and workshops by artists living and working in Munich, Berlin, New York, and Los Angeles. The Brandhorst’s downstairs Patio will be transformed into an arena for artworks and public programs that will introduce new artists and ideas to the Museum and its public.
Throughout the month, Madeline Hollander’s (b. 1986) installation Sunrise/Sunset (2021), will keep a watchful eye over the Museum. The live installation, made of 96 recycled car headlights, operates as a perpetual world clock. The work provides a contemplative horizon for this series of local and international encounters.
Artists Helin Alas (b. 1987), Johanna Klingler (b. 1988), Robert Keil (b. 1987), and Maria VMier (b. 1975) will stage weekly presentations of their work. These artists offer a cross-section of mediums ranging from painting and sculpture to performance and electronic media. Yet their works also offer different models for how artists today engage with institutional spaces: from collaboration and intervention to the diversion of resources.
In tandem with these installations, a group of visiting artists—Haris Epaminonda (b. 1980), Madeline Hollander (b. 1986), Carolyn Lazard (b. 1987), and Cameron Rowland (b. 1988)—will visit the Brandhorst for a series of daytime workshops and evening artist talks. The workshops, open by invitation to artists and students living in Munich, and talks, open to the public, are an opportunity for the museum’s community to forge deeper forms of discursive engagement with contemporary artistic practices.
By offering a stage for encounters and collisions, Site Visit hopes to stimulate new conversations at Museum Brandhorst and beyond. A full schedule of programs and events is available here:
