Resonance becomes the antithesis of alienation in the world. With his light and sound installation res·o·nant the conceptual artist Mischa Kuball invited artists, thinkers and writers to interpret.
The book res·o·nant comments on conceptual artist Mischa Kuball’s project of the same name at the Jewish Museum Berlin. From November 2017 to August 2019, Kuball performed a site-specific light and sound installation on underground sections of the Daniel Libeskind–designed building. In this book, 18 authors and artists sonicate, illuminate, reflect, and project on the resonant space Kuball created inside and outside the museum.
In a series of book presentations and discussions evolving around res·o·nant, Mischa Kuball and a distinguished group of contributors and interlocutors will question the potentialities of the project and shed light on its diverse contexts and trajectories.
The series of events called res·o·nant_discourse started in Düsseldorf at Heinrich Heine Universität as part of the lecture series Research in the Museum: (Im)Material Memory Culture with Prof. Dr. Ulli Seegers (HHU), Dr. Gregor H. Lersch (Jewish Museum, Berlin), and Mischa Kuball discussing questions on (im)material memory culture in museums on November 3.
On November 5, Peter Weibel (ZKM), Dr. Gregor H. Lersch (Jewish Museum, Berlin) and the artist worked through the implications of Resonance becomes the antithesis of alienation in the world interlaced by musical interventions from Duesseldorf-based Kreidler.
On November 17, Hannah Grimme (University Kassel), Dr. Gregor H. Lersch, and Mischa Kuball, will debate Memory Culture in Contemporary Art at the ZI (Zentralinstitut für Kunstgeschichte) in Munich. The discussion will be moderated by PD Dr. Ursula Ströbele (Studienzentrum zur Kunst der Moderne und Gegenwart / ZI, Munich).
In the context of the exhibition History Matters // Konstellation Benjamin by Arno Giesinger, Dr. Friederike Wappler (Scientific Director Kunstsammlungen der RUB, Museum moderner und zeitgenössischer Kunst and Curator of the exhibitionI), Dr. Gregor H. Lersch (Jewish Museum, Berlin), Arno Gisinger and Mischa Kuball will negotiate the possibilities of an artistic representation of history on December 2.
