Awards
The LOOP Award was given to the artist Daniel Steegmann Mangrané for the piece A Dream Dreaming a Dream presented by Esther Schipper Gallery (Berlin). This creation, of infinite duration and dated 2020, is a real-time animation, always similar but also always generated anew, of a dreaming panther wandering through the jungle. It is based on the artist’s ecological perception of the complex webs of interdependence that create reality. The work is acquired by the MACBA Foundation, and becomes part of its collection.
The Roca Village LOOP Acquisition Prize is awarded to the Franco-Algerian artist Katia Kameli for her piece The Storyteller, 2012, 12 minutes, presented by Kulte Gallery (Rabat). The video, filmed at the Royal Theater of Marrakech, explores the power of narratives, and the construction (and reconstruction) of stories in a context marked by a complex past. The work will become part of the LOOP collection, integrated in the MACBA Collection - Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona.
The Jury of this edition was composed of: Claudia Segura (Curator of Exhibition Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona (MACBA), Barcelona), representing Elvira Dyangani Ose (Director, Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona (MACBA), Barcelona), Andrea Lissoni (Director, Haus der Kunst, Munich), Dirk Snauwaert (Director, WIELS, Brussels), Benjamin Weil (Director, Centro de Arte Moderna de la Fundação Gulbenkian, Portugal) and Daniela Zyman (Artistic Director, TBA21, Vienna and Madrid).
LOOP Talks
The LOOP Talks aimed at a series of conversations, lectures and open discussions around moving image and beyond. Throughout the years, the programme shifted from having a strict focus on the medium specificity to encouraging an open and inclusive reflection on creative processes as well as the social, cultural and economic implication of art at large.
This year’s edition focused on the artists who participated in the Fair, with a series of presentations that brought together international curators and collectors. This way, the talks covered topics from the gender issues, the representation of the body, the multiple ways of being in the world beyond human agency; at the same time, the programme addressed the early days of video art as well as the crossovers between moving image and performance with the participation of different guests like Gary Hill, Gusztáv Hámos, Katja Pratschke, Soledad Gutiérrez, Daniel Steegmann Mangrané, Isabelle & Jean Conrad Lemaitre, Guillaume de Saint-Seine, Alain Fleischer, Fatma Bucak, Melanie Manchot, Marcella Lista, Jin Suk-Suh and Menene Gras. Soon available in LOOP VIDEOCHANNEL.
