Transart Institute for Creative Research has been at the forefront of low-residency, interdisciplinary, international creative research programs since 2004. Developed and run entirely by artists, the Institute offers several practice-based programs: PhD, MFA and Academy courses, generating space for experimentation and thinking in any form with endless resources for sharing and connecting. We champion self-directed, curious, flexible and socially engaged creative researchers working independently or collectively.
We offer a unique, interdisciplinary atmosphere uniting all creative fields under one nomadic roof. Where standard programs divide artistic disciplines, our approach generates the cross-pollination of ideas, creating fresh work and expanding the conventional definitions of art and the creative process.
Participate in International Intensives, Retreats, Residencies and monthly translocal Sessions, while working independently with dedicated advisors and peer groups. Earn an MFA or PhD or further your independent creative praxis through the Academy with other international practitioners.
We encourage you to contact Admissions with any questions on the programs or applications process at hello [at] transart.org, or visit our Admissions page for more information.
Practice PhD
In partnership with Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU), our Creative Research PhD is self-directed, project-based research in which writing is an integral contributor. Your work will culminate in a submitted thesis, including a presentation, an exhibition, a publication, reading, performance, screening, or other forms of dissemination and a Viva Voce. In this innovative doctoral program, your creative work is the research in conjunction with a written component.
MFA (one year)
This unique, fast-paced low-residency Creative Practice MFA is a research degree offered in partnership with Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU). With an accepted proposal, fast-track to the PhD at the end of the year.
Academy
An independent creative practice platform with multiple trajectories intended to support your praxis at the advanced stages of your creative continuum. The Academy supports three and six months sessions of one on one advisements and workshops. Refresh or refine your praxis in an international community—option to continue to an MFA or PhD with an accepted proposal.
