In connection with the release of Magne Furuholmen’s new solo album Past Perfect Future Tense, and his newly published artist book Payne’s Gray by Hatje Cantz, we are pleased to announce a solo exhibition of Magne Furuholmen’s new work at Henie Onstad Kunstsenter.
The exhibition Payne’s Gray features Furuholmen’s monotypes on cotton canvas, also presented in his artist book. The exhibition is the first in a series of international exhibitions that signal a significant shift in his artistic career. More than ever before, his work as an accomplished musician, poet and visual artist has been combined into an interconnected multidisciplinary artform. Separate creative paths have now wound into one, providing the intricate and unified vision of a multidisciplinary artist who expresses himself through words, music and images. At the core of the new works, words have taken over, creating a completely new point of departure for the viewer to investigate his work.
Limiting himself to the sole use of Payne’s Gray, he fights against the intrinisic restraints related to the use of only one color, surprising us with the ability to turn gray into an entire spectrum of colors, as if making color photographs out of black and white film.
Magne Furuholmen‘s new work is also on view at Paul Stolper Gallery in London until October 9. This will be followed by an exhibition at Edinburgh Printmakers, November 6 through November 20.
