We are pleased to present a series of events, screenings and talks by artists and curators participating in the e-flux video rental project.
Thursday, November 11, 2004, 8pm – Natasa Petresin
For e-flux video rental Natasa Petresin, a Ljubljana based curator, selected a group of video art works and a documentary film that deal with the potential of either small scale interventions into the public sphere or ongoing socio-cultural phenomena that reconstitute the existing social and political relationships. In her presentation Natasa will speak about works of Mircea Cantor (Romania/France), Jakup Ferri (Kosova), Driton Hajredini (Kosova), Leopold Kessler (Germany/Austria), Sislej Xhafa (Kosova/USA), Akram Zaatari (Lebanon), Polonca Lovsin (Slovenia), Bjargey Olafsdottir (Iceland), the collective The Otolith Group (UK) and the film director Igor Zupe (Slovenia).
Please note: space is limited, please RSVP to julieta@e-flux.com
Sunday, December 12, 2004, noon to midnight – Aleksandra Mir: “Organized Movement “ (2004)
Organized Movement is a video diary, made by Aleksandra Mir this summer during a residency program in Mexico city, “…that covers everything from Mir’s attendance at the dance classes and performances, to observations of ubiquitous teen culture, scenes in seedy- looking night clubs and techno festivals, and moments of spontaneous dancing with fellow resident-artists in offices, hotel lobbies or private apartments, backed with a soundtrack of infectious Mexican pop songs. Mir’s narrative voice-over adopts the model of old television documentaries for children: a patronizing tone full of sweeping judgments and lofty assessments which jars with the video’s casual, unsophisticated and often banal images. She exploits this discrepancy in moments such as where the narrator’s promise of an investigation of “local customs” cutting straight to a scene of trendy teenage boys playing high-tech games in a video arcade, who could just as well be in London or Tokyo as Mexico City.” Kirsty Bell for Camera Austria
