Never before have films and art shown so much interest in social and political reality. Filmmakers and artists are observing and commenting on life in society, they ask questions, and they voice their views on current topics. Whether we are talking movies or art exhibitionsthe documentary style is rapidly gaining ground.
“Reprocessing Reality” is a curator’s essay. It gathers together various concepts of reality, places them side by side, plays them off against each other. What is reality and is there a truth beyond the images we create to visualize it? These and similar questions constitute the thematic horizon of the exhibition. “Reprocessing Reality” sets up a transdisciplinary dialogue between documentary film and the visual arts. Through their observing, film makers and artists position themselves with respect to current affairs and social issues. To do so, they adopt new approaches: film makers occupy space, artists experiment with film techniques. “Reprocessing Reality” deals with the media, people and stories, to explore experiences of reality in the contemporary world.
The show is laid out generously across three floors at Château de Nyon, encompassing about 1,000 square meters. The roster of artists includes well-known and as yet relatively unknown names, as well as up-and-coming artists, set to become internationally renowned. Apart from a few personal favoritespieces that one may almost call classicsmost of the works presented here have never been on display in Europe before, designed specifically for Reprocessing Reality.
