Gert Robijns (b. Sint-Truiden, Belgium, 1972) has in recent years taken part in several prestigious group exhibitions at home and abroad: “Over the Edges” (Ghent – B, 2000), “Locus Focus – Sonsbeek 9″ (Arnhem – NL, 2001), “Squatters” (Witte de With, Rotterdam – NL and Casa de Serralves, Porto – P), “Gelijk het Leven Is” (SMAK, Ghent – B, 2003), “Biennale de Pontevedra” (Pontevedra – E, 2004), .

In 2004 he also received several grants to continue his work.
2004 also saw the publication of the first monograph on his work, entitled Re-Shade, a photographic book with a selection of his work.

Most people know Gert Robijns from the installations he first presented at Watou and at “Over the Edges” in Ghent: “Speedy, Take it Easy” and “Attend (Wait)”. But these installations are only a small part of his work, which has since expanded greatly.

It is for this reason that Z33 is presenting Gert Robijns’ first large solo exhibition, called No. 10 NEVER LEFT RIGHT.
The exhibition by Gert Robijns consits of two parts.
The first part runs from 1.5.2005 to 14.8.2005
The second part will be open from 10.7.2005 to 13.11.2005.

In his works Robijns makes you aware of simple scientific principles and findings.

Images, for example, take shape in your brain. A wink of the eye makes reality leap from left to right. This principle has played a determining role in the spatial arrangement of the first part of the exhibition: floors, walls, images, enclosures and objects shift places: from the inside to the outside, from left to right and from above to below.

This new installation will show work Robijns has done previously.
Sound, waves, making forces visible and thereby shaping reality: this is the game of awareness Gert Robijns plays with us. This principle has played a determining role in the spatial arrangement of the first part of the exhibition: floors, walls, images, enclosures and objects shift places: from the inside to the outside, from left to right and from above to below.

In the second part, new works will be added and Gert Robijns will expand the existing and create, again, a new installation covering several exhibition rooms. With this second part Gert Robijns links his existing to his new work, his work in general to the surrounding space.

While Gert Robijns makes you aware of simple scientific principles, of the space and how it is used, of movement and limitats in the first part, he focuses on onther aspects of perception in this second part.
