Please join us for the BREATHLESS book launch with readings by the authors and a performance by dancer/choreographer Angela Schubot on Wednesday, October 6, 6-8pm.
BREATHLESS is published as part of an upcoming exhibition taking place within a pavilion on The Power Plant’s South Terrace in Summer 2022–a multifaceted project that considers the urgencies evoked by today’s air crises. This covered outdoor event will take place under the Canadian Square West Tent at The Power Plant.
BREATHLESS shares contributions on the paradoxes of air, atmosphere and the breath, including texts by: Dehlia Hannah, Achille Mbembe, Charles Stankievech, Alireza Taheri, Ala Roushan, Kate Whiteway, and Heather Davis. Artworks by Flaka Haliti, Marguerite Humeau, Donna Kukama, and Julius von Bismarck weave throughout, connecting various threads and creating space to breathe.
The publication is edited by curator Ala Roushan, with graphic design by Raf Rennie.
Space is limited. Please reserve your spot through this link.
The publication can be purchased online or at the event.
BREATHLESS is a partnership with The Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery and part of ArtworxTO: Toronto’s Year of Public Art 2021–2022.
In response to the Ontario Government’s requirement that individuals provide proof of being fully vaccinated in order to attend performances, events, galleries and museums, Harbourfront Centre including The Power Plant has implemented several COVID-19 related protocols including: the introduction of a mandatory vaccination policy where completion of a health screening along with presentation of proof of 2nd dose vaccination is asked upon entry to all of its venues and facilities, the required donning of a mask or face covering while inside the building, increased sanitation stations and cleaning of high-frequency touch points, and limited capacity to ensure that physical distancing can be achieved.
