CIVA is a center for exhibitions, education, and conservation both for the general public and experts in architecture, landscape design and urban ecosystems. CIVA offers activities in Ixelles as well as within the new cultural center KANAL, into which it will be integrated by 2024.
CIVA runs a large number of activities: temporary exhibitions, a permanent space dedicated to children, as well as spaces for debate. CIVA also makes available to the public an exceptional archive (plans, sketches, models, furniture, etc.) and a library holding more than 50,000 books and magazines.
CIVA is looking for a contemporary architecture curator to join its programming department. The appointment is scheduled for autumn 2021.

Function description
Under the supervision of the artistic director, the contemporary architecture curator will develop and monitor the cultural programme related to this theme, and represent and position the institution at national and international level.
The tasks entrusted to him/her are:
- Participation in the development of cultural programming (exhibitions, publications and events)
- Monitoring the production (content, mounting, staging or formatting) of the cultural programme, in collaboration with the production, publishing and communication departments
- Representation and positioning of the institution (teaching, research, professional and cultural sector)
- Promoting the activities and collections, particularly through their circulation
- Participation in the implementation of the acquisition policy of the library and archives departments (purchases, donations, auctions, subscriptions)
- Development of partnerships (with associations, schools, cultural institutions) on a national and international scale
- Expertise related to the theme, advice and assistance to the institution’s teams
- Secretariat and management of the “architecture and urban planning” scientific council
- Preparation of the move to the Kanal cultural center
- Follow-up of subsidies
- Budget monitoring
- Reporting
Degree
Master’s degree in architecture, history or art history
Experience
- Three exhibition references in institutions open to the general public
- Three references of articles or publications
Qualifications required
- Excellent command of one of the two national languages (Dutch or French) and good knowledge of the other
- Excellent command of English
- Proficiency in use of Office
- Dynamism, initiative, efficiency, versatility, independence
- Proven interest in heritage, architecture and archive management
