BIAS Online

Especially for the Ars festival, we’re launching our very first online-only exhibition: BIAS Online. We’ll bring you on a journey of compelling exploration through datasets, emotion and facial recognition and artificial intelligence with new artworks from Libby Heaney, Johann Diedrick, Mushon Zer-Aviv, and Noah Levenson.
Orlan in conversation with Orlanoïde

Renowned for her evocative and thought-provoking works, Orlan is a French performance artist who uses bio-hacking and technology to re-frame our perceptions of the body. Over the course of a year, researchers from the ADAPT Centre at Trinity College Dublin have hacked and dissected the artist’s replica Orlanoïde to equip it with new and innovative skills that will enable it to communicate directly with Orlan and to mimic her presence and bodily movements.
In this pivotal new work created in collaboration with Science Gallery Dublin, Orlan will join us virtually from Paris in a brand new performance through a connection between the artist and the artist’s replica Orlanoïde.
(EN)COMPASS: Why do we need creative producers?

(EN)COMPASS is an Art-Science Conversation Series hosted by the Science Gallery Network, interrogating the impact of art and science coming together.
As interdisciplinary collaboration emerges as a vital linchpin in an increasingly interconnected world, the role of Creative Producer is coming to the fore. They appear across industries and sectors, including art-science, and can broadly be identified by a common commitment to collaborative process, relationship building, and creative problem-solving. This interactive session will explore and address common misconceptions around this emerging role, as well as unpacking how projects have the potential to evolve, grow and transform for greater impact when a Creative Producer is involved. Panelists include Lizzie Crouch and Nicholas Medvesck.
Citizens’ Think In: Who can we trust with our data?

Digital technology has rapidly changed how we access information, how we work and how we connect with each other. This has also given rise to a massive increase in the amount of personal data information being gathered across the apps, websites and online services we use every day. But do we really understand where and how this data is shared? What is the level of trust between us and big tech organisations that control our data?
The ADAPT Centre for Digital Content Technology has joined forces with Science Gallery Dublin to host an online Citizens’ Think-In to discuss who should we trust with our data, whether we fully understand the implications of terms, conditions and privacy notices and how we can help people feel confident executing control over their data.
OnlyBans: A playthrough and discussion on the policing of bodies

In this special event hosted by Science Gallery at Michigan State University, explore content moderation algorithms, shadow-banning, “real name” policies, facial recognition software and other threats to our digital civil liberties through a live playthrough of OnlyBans, an interactive game that critically examines the policing of marginalized bodies and sexual labour. Hosted by real sex workers and allies whose stories are included in the game, the event will include a discussion of their experiences with digital surveillance and discrimination.
