The Department of Visual Arts seeks to hire an artist well-versed in contemporary issues of painting to join the faculty at the rank of Assistant Professor. Candidates must demonstrate a strong exhibition record and the ability to teach both basic and advanced painting. Courses taught may include an introductory class with a focus on technique, to more advanced conceptually- and philosophically-inclined topics. The successful candidate will work with a range of undergraduate and graduate students, from the completely inexperienced in our core courses, to advising advanced students working across media.

We are seeking an artist whose research and artistic practice engages with one or more of the following areas: queer aesthetics, body politics, questions of identity and social belonging, digital culture, popular culture, or related issues. Candidates should have intentions to build collaborative conversations within the context of the intense and rigorous intellectual culture of the University.

Our faculty are engaged in active careers of national and international scope. Candidates must demonstrate a deep commitment to their own art with an ability to communicate both within their specific disciplinary area and across a range of media. The ability to engage with work that extends beyond one’s own, and to participate in discussion with faculty within and beyond the visual arts is essential in our program. The successful candidate will be appointed as an Assistant Professor on the tenure track, and will participate with other DOVA faculty in curriculum development, academic advising of students in a variety of media, and other committee work. The expected start date of the position is July 1, 2022, or as soon as possible thereafter.
