Exhibitions, performances, project spaces, private collections, art fairs, and gallery openings
September 15–19, 2021
Berlin Art Week celebrates its tenth edition with a rich jubilee programme at locations all across the city and with digital formats.
19 museums and art institutions, ten private collections, ten prizewinning project spaces, and numerous galleries showcase the diverse Berlin art scene in this year’s edition of Berlin Art Week. The new and extended outreach and education programme—Explore Berlin Art Week—offers a variety of workshops, events, and tours that allow the visitors to experience art up close and from new perspectives. The digital formats Journal and Playlist return this year and provide further insights into Berlin’s contemporary art world as well as complementing and expanding Berlin Art Week’s programme.
Programme highlights 2021
On the occasion of its tenth edition and as part of the education and outreach programme, Berlin Art Week features for the first time a central meeting point—the “BAW Garten.” Located on the grounds of Kindl—Center for Contemporary Art and realised with artist Sol Calero, the temporary centre offers Berlin Art Week visitors of all ages a place to casually spend time, participate, and enter into conversation along with a broad programme of workshops, performances, talks, and music.
This year’s programme especially shines a light on the work of young artists: Hamburger Bahnhof—Museum für Gegenwart—Berlin presents the work of the four nominees of the Preis der Nationalgalerie 2021. This year’s nominees are Lamin Fofana, Calla Henkel and Max Pitegoff, Sandra Mujinga, and Sung Tieu. The Project Space Awards, awarded by the Berlin Senate Department for Culture and Europe, is turning ten this year and will be honouring not only this year’s ten prize winners but also all previous 110 winners on the occasion.
Berliner Festspiele/The New Infinity present the world premieres of audio/visual performances by Actress & Actual Objects, Florence To & Bendik Giske & Bridget Ferrill, as well as Lucas Gutierrez & Robert Lippok.
