November 5–7, 2021
Artissima, the only Italian fair exclusively focusing on contemporary art supported by Intesa Sanpaolo as main partner, will return in Turin from November 5 to 7, featuring works by 154 galleries coming from 37 countries.
Under the direction of Ilaria Bonacossa, the 28th edition of the fair will be organised as a sophisticated combination of the physical and digital guises.
Four historic sections overseen by the Fair Committee are welcomed at the Oval pavilion:
Main Section: for established galleries on the international contemporary art scene;
Dialogue/Monologue: reserved to emerging galleries or galleries with an experimental approach applying with either a monographic booth or with works by two artists in dialogue;
New Entries: for galleries that have been open for less than five years and are at the fair for the first time;
Art Spaces & Editions: devoted to galleries and non-profit spaces presenting editions, prints, and multiples by contemporary artists.
For the second year, the innovative cross-media platform Artissima XYZ will transform the curated sections Present Future, Back to the Future and Disegni into an immersive digital experience, thanks to the support of Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo. Thirty artists for thirty galleries will be online with exclusive content November 4 to 9 and at the fair with three exhibitions November 5 to 7.
Present Future, curated by Ilaria Gianni and Fernanda Brenner, focuses on emerging talents, preferably under 40 years of age, with the goal of shedding light on new trends on the international art scene.
Back to the Future, curated by Lorenzo Giusti and Mouna Mekouar, features monographic projects by great pioneers of contemporary art of the last century, who are still active today. The section hosts artworks realised starting from 1960 in dialogue with recent ones.
Disegni, curated by Bettina Steinbrügge and Lilou Vidal, presents monographic projects dedicated to the most contemporary experimentations with the practice of drawing, originally associated with paper and then radically evolved.

5 prizes supported by sponsors: illy Present Future Prize, FPT for Sustainable Art Award, Tosetti Value Award for photography, Carol Rama Award by Fondazione Sardi per l’Arte, VANNI occhiali #artistroom Prize. 3 prizes supported by local institutions: OGR Award, Ettore and Ines Fico Prize, “Ad occhi chiusi…” Prize by Fondazione Merz.
Furthermore, the Marval Collection New Entries Support will sustain the galleries taking part in the New Entries section.
Among the new initiatives, Artissima 2021 will feature a new geographical focus, Hub India - Maximum Minimum, curated by Myna Mukherjee and Davide Quadrio, and with institutional partner Emami Art. An overview of galleries, institutions, and artists active in an area of central importance, Hub India - Maximum Minimum will be a panoramic look at the startling visual culture that reflects the abounding polarities, contradictions and dualities that comprise India. From the country’s ancient spiritualism to its modern materialism, its colonial past to its growing global centrality, its migratory flows from largely agrarian and rural towards rapid urbanisation, from dogma to technology, from marginal to mainstream, from historical monuments to contemporary architecture, from normative to radical, the curated project will look through myriad histories and representation in the subcontinent.
The fair is managed by Artissima srl, a company affiliated with Fondazione Torino Musei. The Artissima trademark belongs to Regione Piemonte, Città Metropolitana di Torino and Città di Torino. The 28th edition of Artissima is produced with the support of the three trademark holders, in collaboration with Fondazione CRT, Fondazione per l’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea CRT, Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo and Camera di commercio di Torino.
