Letizia Ragaglia took over from Friedemann Malsch, founding Director of Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein, on July 1, 2021.
Ragaglia, born in Italy, 1969, brings a wealth of experience in curating and museum management. Following her studies in art history and museology, Ragaglia worked as a freelance curator specializing in projects for public spaces on behalf of various Italian and international institutions. From 2009 to May 2020, Ragaglia was Director of Museion – Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Bolzano. She mounted numerous monographic exhibitions including Monica Bonvicini, Isa Genzken, Andro Wekua, VALIE EXPORT, Carl Andre, Claire Fontaine, Paweł Althamer, Rosemarie Trockel, Danh Vo, Klara Lidén, Ceal Floyer, Tatiana Trouvé, Rossella Biscotti, Cerith Wyn Evans, Francesco Vezzoli, Korakrit Arunanondchai, Judith Hopf, Lili Reynaud Dewar, John Armleder, Keren Cytter, Haim Steinbach, Marguerite Humeau and Karin Sander as well as several displays of the museum’s collection.
Ragaglia commented on her new post, “A few months have already passed since my appointment, during which time I have been able to focus in depth on Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein and the tasks at hand. By engaging in a dialogue with the museum’s team, I have already been able to plan some way ahead. I am tremendously looking forward to being involved in day-to-day museum work, getting to know the whole team and having the privilege of experiencing the “Liechtenstein context” at first hand.”
Dr Marion Matt, President of the Board of Trustees of Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein, looks forward to working with the new Director and remarked, “Letizia Ragaglia impressed us in the selection procedure with her experience, expertise and her personable, open manner. Building on work to establish and position the museum under Friedemann Malsch, she will of course also bring fresh impetus. I am certain that she will devote herself with great commitment to consolidating and further developing Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein both in the region and the international art world.”
Letizia Ragaglia takes over as Director of Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein from Dr Friedemann Malsch, who retired on June 30 and had overseen the museum since its opening in November 2000. During his tenure of more than 20 years, he succeeded in giving the museum a clear, distinctive profile which is today understood and acknowledged within the community of international modern and contemporary art museums. He rendered exceptional services in building the collection and establishing the international reputation of Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein.
