The Magasin-Centre national d’art contemporain (CNAC) in Grenoble, created in 1986, has established itself as one of the most important art centers in Europe. It occupies a space of 3000 square meters in a former industrial building (with an Eiffel framework), converted by the architect Patrick Bouchain. Located in the heart of the Bouchayer-Viallet district, at the entrance to the city and the metropolis, the Magasin-CNAC is part of an urban setting rich in cultural facilities. Governed by an associative status (law 1901), the Magasin-CNAC carries out its priority missions of diffusion and production in the form of exhibitions presented in a dedicated space
It is supported by the Ministry of Culture, the City of Grenoble, the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Region and the Isère Departmental Council. It is administered by a board of directors composed of representatives of the four public partners and qualified personalities in the field of contemporary art.
Description of the position
Director – Manager (M/W)
The director will assume the following missions:
–Design and implementation of the artistic and cultural project in accordance with the material, human and budgetary resources, and the specific architecture of the building.
–Development and implementation of a policy for the public, visitors, and schools
–Development of a partnership approach towards the various local, regional, and international cultural actors
–Management of dedicated staff, administrative, legal, and budgetary management of the establishment.
–Implementation of the application for labeling of the art center as a “center of contemporary art of national interest” in accordance with Decree No. 2017-432 of March 28, 2017 on labels and agreement in the fields of live performance and visual arts.
–Hours: full time

Profile sought:
–He/she has an excellent knowledge of art history and has curated notable exhibitions
–He/she has experience in directing a contemporary art institution and/or major art projects
–He/she has the ability to implement an innovative project, both from an artistic point of view and in its relationship to the territories
–He/she has managerial skills, a strong sense of initiative and organization, and is available to work with others
–He/she has an excellent knowledge of the ecosystem of artistic creation and the conditions of exercise of professions in the visual arts sector;
–He/she has a sense of general interest and a great capacity for dialogue with various interlocutors;
–He/she has an aptitude for seeking private or public funds
–He/she is at least bilingual in French and English
–He/she will be based in the Grenoble area
