What meaning do residencies hold for the people and places involved?
July 7, 2021, 12pm
(EN)COMPASS is a new series hosted by Science Gallery International, interrogating the impact of art and science coming together.
Our second session will explore the importance and impact of residencies, and whether collaborations fostered through those residencies bring about significant change at the individual and institutional levels.
The second session will feature Antajuan Scott (Head of Programming, Science Gallery at Michigan State University) in conversation with artist Haseeb Ahmed (US), artist Anna Dumitriu (UK), curator-producer Dr. Claudia Schnugg (AT) and Associate Professor in the history of science Dr. Craig Martin (US).
Register for this session here. Free and open to everyone.
About Science Gallery
The Science Gallery Network consists of leading universities united around a singular mission: to ignite creativity and discovery where science and art collide. The nine universities of the Science Gallery Network are committed to bringing science, art, technology and design together to deliver world-class educational and cultural experiences for young people, presented in connective, participative, and surprising ways.
Universities are rapidly realising the importance of building meaningful avenues for young people who would not normally engage with the institutions on their doorsteps. By joining the Science Gallery Network, universities can draw on global connections to benefit their local communities, and use their local insights to generate new research with international impact.
The rapid growth of the Science Gallery Network across four continents since its inception in 2012 at Trinity College Dublin is testament to its success. 2018 saw the launch of Science Gallery London at King’s College London, while Science Gallery Melbourne at The University of Melbourne opened in 2021. Science Gallery Bengaluru at the Indian Institute of Science, Science Gallery Venice at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, Science Gallery Detroit at Michigan State University, Science Gallery Atlanta at Emory University, Science Gallery Rotterdam at Erasmus MC, and Science Gallery Berlin at Technische Universität Berlin are all delivering programming to local audiences and developing bespoke facilities to house their own Science Gallery.
