La Pedrera—Casa Milà hosts the 19th edition of the LOOP Fair in Barcelona, to be held from November 16 to 18, 2021.
For this new edition, LOOP Fair adapts its format to offer yet another physical experience and an exceptional meeting point for the ever growing moving image community.
The iconic modernist building by Antoni Gaudí—La Pedrera—Casa Milà—long term collaborator of LOOP Barcelona, will provide the ideal venue to set up a dynamic display of the latest contributions to moving image creation. Maintaining the Fair’s intimate atmosphere and familiar spirit, the selection will feature the participation of about 30 international galleries and artists. With an exhibition-like format, the Fair will showcase multiple works testifying to the ductility of video as a creative and critical tool.
The selected galleries will be invited by an international committee of leading video art collectors, chaired by Jean-Conrad Lemaître and composed by: Isabelle Lemaître (who, together with Jean-Conrad, promotes the StudioCollector Prize); Haro Cumbusyan (based in Zurich and founder of Collectorspace, a small locale in Istanbul); Josée and Marc Gensollen (conceptual art collectors who have turned their Marseille’s home, La Fabrique, into an art centre); Renée Drake (a contemporary art collector and devotee with close ties to the Dutch and South African art scene).
From November 16 to 26, all the videos selected for the Fair will simultaneously be available for streaming on a newly designed virtual platform conceived by Hyperstudio (Madrid).
This year’s edition will be completed by a special section presenting a series of works exploring the boundaries between video and performance, curated by Rose Lejeune. It will echo the theme of the “body” developed in the LOOP Festival’s programme, through a rich offer of exhibitions and performances in a wide variety of art venues.
Hosting also a number of specialised talks and professional meetings addressed to art professionals, La Pedrera—Casa Milà will become the core of a thrilling week dedicated to moving image and artist’s film.
La Pedrera—Casa Milà is a cultural centre and the central offices of the Catalunya La Pedrera Foundation. As such, it hosts art events of the first order and provides a forum for some of the debates associated with the thinking of today and tomorrow. LOOP Barcelona has collaborated several times with La Pedrera—Casa Milà in the past, with projects such as the First Screen’s programme of artists’ premieres and complementary lectures on the exhibition Bill Viola. Mirrors of the unseen.
