How will courses be delivered this summer?
SAIC offers a wide selection of on-campus courses, as well as a robust selection of hybrid and online classes, so that students can choose the course mode that best suits their needs, interests, and comfort level. Building on our learning and successes of the current academic year, our faculty will continue to teach in these modalities, offering the innovative, engaging classes that are a hallmark of SAIC. Our three course modalities prioritize the health and safety of our community and give students maximum flexibility to choose the courses that are best for them.
Modified in-person
This hybrid delivery format blends online and on-campus learning, prioritizing access to making facilities and resources on campus, while allowing for social distancing and online instruction and lectures where possible.
On-campus in Chicago
Woven into the fabric of vibrant downtown Chicago, SAIC’s campus is your ideal home base. You’ll be surrounded by remarkable architecture, innovative public art, world-class museums and galleries, an extraordinary lakefront, and one of the largest concentrations of working artists in the US. To see a full overview of how SAIC has prepared campus for safe on-campus learning, visit saic.edu/makeready.
Online instruction
Enjoy the flexibility and convenience of learning and making from wherever you are. We’ve designed our online courses to be an ideal mix of real-time participation, faculty-led demos and lectures, working in your home studio, receiving one-on-one feedback from your instructors, researching our virtual resource library, and engaging with your peers. The majority of our classes are synchronous, which means you’ll interact in real time with your instructors and peers during scheduled Zoom meeting sessions as well as work independently in your own time. A few classes meet in the asynchronous mode in which you can access course content and correspond with your instructor and peers at any time of day. You’ll have access to an array of resources and engaging content through SAIC’s online learning platform.
Did you know? SAIC offers youth classes too. We host a variety of online courses for kids ages 4–13, online and in-person courses for high schoolers ages 14–18, and family camps!
